What the guides on this site are and are not. They are general help, not official support, and not a promise that a fix will work on your device.

Last updated

The guides on Guided Fixes are general help written for everyday users. They are not official support, and they cannot promise that a fix will work on your device.

This is not official support

We are not Microsoft, Apple, Google or any device maker, and we are not their support team. We have no connection with them, and they do not endorse our guides. We do not offer phone, chat or remote support, and we cannot fix a device for you.

For repairs, warranty claims or problems our guides do not solve, use the support page on the maker's official website. The guides are not legal, financial, medical or professional IT advice. If a device holds important business or personal data, talk to a qualified professional.

Results vary

Computers, phones and accessories differ by version, model, settings, region and installed updates. Menu names and screens change between releases and between makers. For example, Android phones from different makers use different menus. A step that works on one device may not work on another.

We say which versions a guide covers wherever we can, but we cannot cover every combination. If what you see on screen does not match a guide, stop and check before you go on.

Changing settings and running commands carries risk

Back up first

Some steps change settings, run commands, edit system files, change the BIOS or UEFI, reset a device or erase a drive. These steps can stop a device from working or cause data to be lost.

Back up your files before you start. Follow the steps in order, read each warning, and do not go on if you are unsure. If you are not comfortable with a step, stop and ask the device maker or a qualified technician you trust. You are responsible for what you do on your own devices.

Older and unsupported Windows versions

Some guides cover older versions of Windows that Microsoft no longer supports, such as Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1. Windows 10 now belongs in this group, because its support ended in October 2025.

These versions no longer receive regular security updates, so using them online carries more risk. Keep them offline or away from sensitive tasks such as banking and email, and plan to move to a supported version.

We write these guides for people who still need them. They are not a suggestion to keep using old software. Where a guide covers installing Windows, you must use your own legally obtained disc or image and a valid license. We do not supply Windows, product keys, activation tools or software downloads.

Third-party websites, software and products

Guides name a product or link to a website only where the steps need it. An example is a maker's official download page. We do not control those sites or products, and we cannot promise that they are safe, accurate or available. Check that you are on the maker's real website before you download anything. Mentioning a product is not an endorsement.

Accuracy and corrections

We work to keep guides accurate, but technology changes quickly and mistakes happen. Each guide shows the date it was last updated. A recent date does not prove a guide is right for your version, and an older date does not mean a guide is wrong.

If you find an error, tell us through the contact page and choose Report an error in a guide. We check reports against the maker's documentation and correct the guide when we confirm a problem. The Editorial Policy explains how guides are made.

Ratings and reviews are opinions

Star ratings come from visitors, and Google reviews come from people who post them on Google. We do not check either one, and they are not a promise that a guide will work for you. The Ratings and Reviews Policy explains how they work. Our responsibility for the site is limited as set out in the Terms of Use.
